Lily Chin, knitwear designer, author and official fastest crocheter in the world, today announced the launch of the Lily Chin Signature Collection of yarns and patterns for handknitters and crocheters at the needlework industry's trade show, TNNA.
Chin's debut marks the first time an American knitwear designer has created a line of fashion yarns under her own name. The highly anticipated collection will be available in yarn and needlework shops in the U.S. and Canada in August 2005.
Chin has worked in the yarn industry for nearly 25 years as a designer, instructor, and author of three books on knitting and crochet, as well as having worked with designers Ralph Lauren, Vera Wang, Diane von Furstenberg, and Isaac Mizrahi. A Vogue Master Knitter, her work has been on the backs of celebrities and supermodels from Racquel Welch and Vanna White to Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell. Most recently, she has become a household name across the country for demonstrating her flying hooks on national television programs like the David Letterman Show, CBS Early Show, CNN and MSNBC. Chin is the official reigning champion fastest crocheter in the world since 2002.
Chin has partnered with yarn manufacturer CNS to develop this design-driven, spirited, stunning and bold yarn collection that embodies the fresh approach to knitting and crocheting for which she has become famous. A2Z Fibers, LLC was announced as the sole US distributor of the collection.
The Lily Chin Signature Collection will be supported with a pattern collection of original, fashion-savvy designs that have a timeless quality about them. "I love to keep in touch with fashion, without being too trendy," says Chin. "This collection has great fibers and designs that are made to last, because when you put that much heart and time into creating a hand knit or crocheted garment, you want it to be durable and in style season after season."
"I'm excited about this new partnership with Lily - not the least of which because I've been a fan of her work for a long time," says Eric Nichols, president and CEO, CNS Yarns. "We foresee many synergies between CNS and Lily as a brand and recognize her amazing fashion approach and vision, which will be reflected in the new line of yarns."
The six yarns in the premiere collection are named after Chin's favorite neighborhoods in her native Manhattan: Tribeca, a mohair blend; Chelsea, a unique blend of merino wool, cotton, and acrylic; Nolita, a fun dusting of eyelash; Central Park, a wool blend boucle with a touch of stretch (Lycra); Gramercy, a super wash merino wool with a special twist; Greenwich Village, a mohair yarn with a twist of a lustrous stand of rayon.
The yarns will be available in a uniquely rich color palette starting at $5.99 per 50 gram ball for purchase by yarn shops in the U.S. from A2Z Fibers at (267) 523-1100 and in Canada from CNS Yarns at (877) 244-1204. The yarns also can be purchased by retailers online at www.lilychinsignaturecollection.com.
