Feb. 10: Massanutten Resort Celebrates 40th Ski Season

Massanutten has prepared a long list of activities, specials and events to celebrate the 40th anniversary.

MCGAHEYSVILLE, VA / PR FREE / Dec 02 2011 --
Fortieth birthdays and anniversaries are a pretty big deal in most households, and it is no different for Massanutten Resort located outside of Harrisonburg, Va. The upcoming 2011/2012 ski season will mark this important milestone for the resort.

No one is more excited than long-time Massanutten Resort Ski Area Manager Steve Showalter. Showalter comments, "It has been amazing watching Massanutten grow from a ski-only resort with limited snow-making to what we offer today: skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing, with a mountain-wide snow making system.

"Massanutten's commitment to on-the-snow family fun continues after 40 years."

Massanutten Resort has made many improvements in its ski area over the past few years. In 2009, a Doppelmayr CTEC quad chairlift with a loading conveyor was installed, which was the first of its kind in Virginia and, in 2010, an additional loading conveyor was installed on lift 4. New for 2011 is the installation of a triple-lift, plus the addition of a 132-person ice skating rink.

Mak Koebig, vice president of Massanutten Resort, adds, "The recent upgrades to our lift and snow-making infrastructure prove our commitment to providing a quality snow sports experience for years to come. We want our guests and owners to see that even though we have been around for a long time, we are dedicated to the long-term vitality of our resort. With all of the improvements, comes the icing on the cake - literally!"

Massanutten has prepared a long list of activities, specials and events to celebrate the 40th anniversary. The actual big day will take place on Feb. 10, 2012, with plans to roll out that birthday cake, unveil a 40th anniversary DVD, and throw a big party in the Ski Lodge amongst old friends and new.

Kenny Hess, former assistant ski area manager and current business operations director, says, "I started skiing here when I was 13 years old and made many friends that I still keep in contact with today. This season will be really special in that regard. We will all come together and reminisce, while our children are off skiing together."

Other events planned for the 40th season celebration include appreciation days, a photo contest, winter lodging specials, lesson specials, and the fabulous "Four Days, Four Hours for $40" deal.
