When selecting a printer to use to print a picture, the primary feature to consider is whether to use a printer that needs an ink cartridge or one that requires a toner cartridge. Laser printers have been more widely used than inkjets without knowing exactly how it functioned. Each type of printer has its own advantages and disadvantages.

A laser jet offers a number of advantages such as the fact that a laser printer is able to print both documents and images faster than the inkjet. The downfall is that the laser printer quality is sub-par when compared to the inkjet. The colors are not as bright and vivid and detail is not as clear and precise. To primarily intend to print photos, buy a printer that uses an ink cartridge rather than a laser cartridge.

The way that a laser printer and inkjet printer produce text and images differs. The inkjet printer sprays ink from the ink cartridge directly on the paper, while a laser burns the toner from the toner cartridge directly on the paper. Each produces its own quality of printouts.

Inkjet printers are affordable and can be purchased for as little as $40 in some stores and increase in price as the features and capabilities increase. Some models print faster than others, which directly impacts their price. Almost all printers are able to print with the same quality and resolution. If photo quality is a concern, ensure that the printer that has separate color cartridges instead of an all-in-one. which will also require less money since only the colors that are used most often will require replacement.

Laser printers are the ideal solution for some situations. If one expects to print a lot of documents for work or school, save money on purchasing the toner cartridge since it holds more and lasts longer. The cost per page on a laser printer is approximately 2 to 5 cents, whereas it can range from 10 to 15 cents per page with an inkjet, factoring in the cost of replacing the ink. Photos can cost up to $1/page, which is excessive to spend for supplies.

After deciding on the type of printer to buy, select the model. Read reviews in popular publications or on the Internet to see the different pros and cons for each one to know if the model is ideal for specific needs.
