Jean Wagner, president and CEO of Wagner Resources, Inc. of Gaithersburg (MD) won a Stevie Award for Best Executive - Service Businesses - Up to 100 Employees in the recent Stevie Awards for Women in Business.

The Stevie Awards for Women in Business honor women executives, entrepreneurs, and the companies they run - worldwide. The Stevie Awards have been hailed as “the business world’s own Oscars.” (New York Post, April 27, 2005).

Nicknamed the Stevies for the Greek word “crowned,” winners were announced during ceremonies at New York’s Marriott Marquis Hotel. More than 180 nominated women executives and entrepreneurs from the U.S. and several other countries attended.

In winning the Stevie, Wagner beat five other finalists in her category including executives from California, Washington, Texas and Pennsylvania.

Stevie Awards were presented in 34 categories including Best Entrepreneur, Best Executive, Lifetime Achievement, and Women Helping Women. More than 600 entries from companies of all sizes and in virtually every industry were submitted for consideration. Wagner was also a finalist in the Best Entrepreneur – Service Business – Up to 100 Employees category.

The elegant Stevie trophy was designed by R. S. Owens, the same company that makes the Oscar® and the Emmy.

“It was a strong field of competitors and I’m very happy for the recognition, both for myself and for my company,” Wagner said. Her company, Wagner Resources is a Gaithersburg, MD-based WRI is a woman-owned company that specializes in the handling of the day-to-day activities of both small to mid-sized businesses and government agencies alike. The company is a participant in the U.S., Small Business Administration’s 8(a) business development program.
